Heard on talk radio yesterday: A talk show commentator excoriated Obama on 12.23.2008 for temerity in selecting the Lincoln Inaugural Bible to take his oath of office.  He objected to Obama's purported comparison of himself to Lincoln. 

AmericanaWorks applauds Obama's effort to extract nuggets of wisdom from the Lincoln Presidency and the symbolism of using the Lincoln Bible to swear his oath.  We hope and pray that the comparison does not end with the fact that both are tall Illinoisans. 

We like Obama's selection of Lincoln as someone to emulate.  It shows an appreciation for the weight of the Office.  We like Obama's emulation of Lincoln's Cabinet of Rivals.  It respects principles of indivisibility bolstered by free speech.  We like his thoughtful approach to issues and his thoughtful word usage.

The hopes of the free world and the parts of the world that yearn to be free appear to have been placed in good hands.
